Born and raised in Southwestern Michigan,
Philip Duane Johncock was the middle of five brothers. He was born at
4:04 a.m. on
January 4, 1959 in Hastings, Michigan. Philip's parents are
Dorlene Elaine (Ramey) and Jerry Welton Johncock. "Philip" means "lover
of horses", but Dorlene and Jerry chose his name from the bible. After his birth, a nurse
brought Dorlene the birth certificate, which she promptly asked to be
corrected, because "Philip is spelled with
only one 'l'."
Below is a picture of the five Johncock brothers with mom, dad,
grandpa
& grandma Johncock, two sisters-in-law (Toni & Blanca), and (at the time) two
nephews (Lynden III & Carlos) & two nieces (Julie & Jessie).

Philip's parents built a house next to Gun Lake in an area
called
"Gun Ho", which was developed by Lynden Johncock Sr. (grandpa...in blue
jacket above). Gun Lake is located
about half way between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Philip graduated from Delton Kellogg High School in Delton, Michigan in
1977. He was all-state runningback in
football his senior year, setting many school
and state records.
In Fall 1977, Philip went on to college and completed his Bachelors degree in 1981 in Integrated Social
Sciences from William James College, a small liberal arts college, part of Grand Valley
State Universities, in Allendale, Michigan.
On vacation in Mexico for two weeks in fall 1981 with his sister-in-law
Blanca and nephew Lynden III, Philip liked it so much, he ended up staying in Mexico for
two years. He lived in Gomez Palacio, Durango and Torreon, Coahuila. There, he honed his classroom-learned Spanish communication skills and
started teaching and tutoring in English as a Second Language (ESL). Before his
first semester of teaching at a private school was completed in spring 1982, he was asked to become the
director of the ESL school at the Instituto Technologico de Monterrey, a private English school for
adults and children. Also during this time, Philip began customizing
ESL programs for local businesses, such as the Federal Electric Commission, El Vergel
winery, and Palacio Real Hotel.
On June 4, 1984, Philip moved to Reno, Nevada to pursue his
masters
degree. In fall 1984, he began teaching ESL and eventually administered several
grant-funded programs at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). In 1986, he
was sought out by the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to design a new training program
for graduate teaching assistants from foreign countries. The next year, he
became director of the training program for all graduate teaching assistants
at the University; the program was called the
Graduate School Instructional Development (GSID) program.
In 1988, Philip graduated from the University
of Nevada, Reno with a Masters in Teaching English. His grant writing
experience began the day after he graduated. Philip was
contacted by Truckee Meadows Community College to write his first grant --
for $125,000 -- to teach English and citizenship skills to newly legalized
immigrants. Since that first grant, Philip has written 48 successful grants, securing more than
$6.3 million in funding for nonprofit agencies. To-date, he has a 92+% success rate!
In 1994, Philip began
to study different mental, physical, emotional and spiritual integration practices.
He studied Reiki, sound & music, meditation and Tantra. During that time, Philip
coordinated a teacher training grant at TMCC and set up customized training programs for
employees of (the soon to open) Silver Legacy, Nevada Bell, International Game Technology,
Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center, Sands, Tahoe Biltmore and Harrah's.
Philip took two years off from working in the educational
system in Nevada (Sept 1995-July 1997) to pursue a career as a "healer."
He lived in Carmel,
California for three months. In December 1995, he traveled to Lake Louise, Alberta Canada with
hopes of writing a book. They lived just outside Banff National Park
in a little town called Canmore, and
traveled
extensively throughout Canada and the U.S. During that time, he became a licensed Tantra teacher (2
years of training) and a licensed Metaphysical Minister, while completing a second
Bachelors Degree in Metaphysics from the University of
Metaphysics. He wrote two workbooks on Tantra, which were published in 1997 by SkyDancing Institute
International,
which has since closed down. He also
published several articles and co-taught Tantra workshops with
Catherine throughout Canada and the U.S.
He
also attended the Hendricks Institute to receive
training in
body-centered transformation and conscious relationships. Philip
returned to Reno in July 1997 to put his financial situation back in order...
$67,000 in credit card debt.
In December 2003, stories of Philip's Tantra experiences
were released in The Awakening: A Tantric Story.
In 2007, Fun Unlimited Inc will release a
Tantra At Home program, where
people can learn SkyDancing Tantra in the privacy of their own homes.
In
February 2005, Philip co-authored a new book --
The Path of SkyDancing Tantra -- with Margot Anand.
It was featured in Redbook magazine in the April 2005 issue. Also,
released in February 2005 is a music CD --
Awaken the Senses --
which was inspired by Philip and includes music for one of the most popular SkyDancing Tantra practices included in the workbook (see sample tracks from
CD at bottom of left column). In 2007, Philip
released the Tantra At Home
course, he created for people to learn SkyDancing™ Tantra in the privacy of
their own homes, at their own paces. It has been translated into
German and Chinese.
In fall 1997, Philip built the Internet's first Online Grant Writing class at www.4grants.net
. 4grants.net© provides
classes and on-line resources for people who want to learn how to write
successful grant proposals and
who can't wait for or are unable to attend the next class. His
online class is still very popular.

Since arriving in Reno in 1997, Philip has also taught Spanish at
Galena High School, coordinated school-to-careers projects at Truckee
Meadows Community College, marketed College Tech Prep and 2+2 (2 years of
high school + 2 years of college) programs for high school students in
Washoe County, and directed the implementation of Perkins III occupational
education grants at TMCC.
In
1999, Philip and colleague Nancy Jo Z'Smith (both Reiki Master Teachers)
were interviewed on a program on Reiki for the local cable station in Reno,
NV. The program was the most requested program on the station for
three years in a row. In 2005, Philip created a DVD of the show.
It is called Reiki: An
Explosion of Colors because the interviewer describes in exquisite
detail the variety of colors he sees when he is experiencing a hands-on
demonstration of Reiki in the show.
In 2001 and 2002, Philip attended Jean Houston's Mystery
School (www.jeanhouston.com) in
Portland, Oregon, as well as the first Social Artistry program offered by
Jean Houston in Ashland, Oregon in summer 2002. In 2004 and 2005,
Philip has served on the board of directors of the International
Institute for Social Artistry (www.SocialArtistryInstitute.org).
In 2001, Philip created and piloted a 10-credit
grant writing
certification program at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno.
The certification program, the only one of its kind in the nation, is
Philip's legacy, through which he shares much of his 12 years experience
and 92+% success rate. Over 385 students attended, and millions in
grant funds were secured by students for nonprofit organizations in
Northern Nevada and throughout the U.S.
On April 1, 2002, Philip received his second masters
degree in Metaphysics from the University of Metaphysics, Los Angeles,
California. He wrote a thesis, entitled The Metaphysics of
Successful Grant Writing, which included his 12 years of grant writing
and 8 years grant writing teaching experience as well as tips from over 85 grant writing experts . He
converted the thesis into a new book, entitled Dream-Making to Billions: Grant
Writing Tips from the Experts. The book was published in January
2003. Book description.
On Good Friday (March 29), 2002, Philip graduated from
the year-long Professional Breath and Movement School at the Hendricks Institute (www.hendricks.com)
in Santa Barbara, California. He is a trainer for the Professional Breath and Movement School
and co-author (with Dr. Kathlyn Hendricks and Linda Marinovich) in 2003
of Movement Activities & Breathing Observations, a training
manual used with apprentices of the Hendricks Institute.
In August 2002, Philip started a
2-year apprenticeship program with the Hendricks Institute (www.hendricks.com).
His primary interests are the four pillars of integrity, persona play,
coaching, discovering one's Genius and early
developmental stages.
In February 2004, he created a new Nevada corporation --
Fun Unlimited Inc -- which bought out 4Grants.Net and Johncock Enterprises.
The corporation represents one of Philip's life purposes... to generate fun.
Check out www.FunUnlimitedInc.com.
In May 2005, a new course -- the
Genius Course
Online -- co-authored by Philip and Dr. Gay Hendricks was released.
The course teaches people how to discover and express their unique inner
Genius and full creative magnificence in the world.
In June 2005, two of Philip's books -- rewritten works of
spiritual teachers -- were released in a new club, called the
Transformational Book
Circle. When you subscribe to the circle, you receive a book a
month, and two of the books you receive in the first year were modernized
and rewritten by Philip.
In January 2007, Philip began a 3-year Cohort Ph.D.
Program in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Ethical and
Creative Leadership at the
Union Institute and University.
For 2008, Philip created the Inspiring Genius 2008
calendar with breathtaking photos in nature by award-winning photographer
Mark Vollmer and inspiring quotes.
